As a a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt community mental health organization, our mission is to make high quality supportive counseling available to more people. We do this by offering free and low-cost counseling services.

About our Social Justic Mission

The Vermont Wellness Collaborative is focused on social justice and anti-oppressive work. This means that our practitioners are trained to recognize the societal, cultural and institutional oppression that exists in all of our lives.

Clients do not need to focus their own work in therapy on these issues. This is a common misconception of this approach. Rather, we work with clients on a range of issues while exploring the impacts that oppression in society may, or may not, have on these issues.

Each client is provided with the following anti-oppressive practice statement. This statement was a result of collaboration with many therapists and experts in this field.

Anti-Oppressive Practice Statement

You deserve and have a right to therapy and healing in a safe environment centered authentically within a discourse of human liberation.

You deserve the creation of a space free from historical and current forms of cultural and social oppression.

You have the right to call-out oppressive language or actions without fear of retribution or judgement. Our therapists are trained to recognize harmful language and to acknowledge it with racial humility.

We hold ourselves accountable when our power or privilege replicates or reinforces oppressive behaviors or a morality justifying oppression along a multidimensional, intersectional framework.

If you are having concerns regarding your safety and/or access to therapy or healing in an oppression free-environment please let us know immediately by emailing: info@vermontwellness.org
